Sampling
Sampling for the different workpackages of the EU-project HOMSIR is carried out on 21 different sites in the Mediterranean and the North-East Atlantic (see map below, can be downloaded as high-resolution pdf-file, 72 kB; requires Acrobat (R) Reader). In general, 100 fish should be sampled on each site, and all techniques are conducted on the same individual fish specimens.
The group agreed on a detailed sampling scheme to meet the high demands some of the partners have on the material quality. Scheme can be downloaded (text in the report of the 1st meeting, MS word, 52 kB, graphic as pdf-file: 196 kB; requires Acrobat (R) Reader).
Most project partners are involved in sampling. See section workpackages, WP 01, for more details.
In 2000, only sites 04 and 11 could not be sampled. Additional effort was made in 2001 to cover these areas, and samples along the Atlantic continental shelf edge have been obtained from research vessels during the triennial mackerel and horse mackerel egg survey.
